ERIC LANHAM

ATTORNEY

Eric Lanham has been involved in the workers’ compensation arena for over three decades, representing employers, insurers, and injured workers. His specialty involved handling complex cases, usually with multiple issues involving subrogation, insurance coverage, medicare set-asides, and multi-state litigation. He has presented on these topics to many industry groups and bar associations. After his recent retirement from the active practice of law, he has opened a mediation practice.

During his time as a practicing attorney, Eric approached his cases with an eye toward reaching a reasonable resolution, often using mediation as a tool to accomplish that goal. He has participated in various roles in hundreds of mediations, including acting as a mediator. And, although most cases do settle, Mr. Lanham has tried numerous cases, and has argued before administrative agencies, Courts of Appeals, and Supreme Courts in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa.

Eric received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he graduated with honors. He and his wife Carla have three grown children, Max, Maggie, and Michael, and they are all huge Mizzou Tiger fans. In his free time, Eric likes to work in his yard and brew beer.

MEDIATION

WHY MEDIATE?

Mediation is a cost-effective, faster, and confidential alternative to resolving workers' compensation disputes. It helps avoid the high expenses and lengthy timelines of court trials while preserving relationships between employers and employees. Mediation provides more control over the outcome, as both parties collaboratively reach a mutually agreeable solution. Additionally, agreements made through mediation tend to have higher compliance rates, since they are the result of mutual consent rather than imposed by a judge.

A good mediator is neutral, skilled in workers' compensation law, and able to foster effective communication between parties. They should also have strong problem-solving abilities, empathy, and patience to handle emotionally charged situations. A successful mediator ensures fairness by helping parties explore creative solutions while keeping the focus on resolving the issue in a way that feels just for everyone involved.

Lanham Legal Services LLC offers both virtual and in-person mediation. Easily schedule a mediation through the link below.
